I commend the Office of Inspector General for its comprehensive analysis of the Fed’s renovation costs. While the report makes clear there was no fraud or criminal wrongdoing by the Fed or any member of the Board, it also makes clear there should have been better procedures and project management expertise for a project of this scale. The entire federal government, from the executive branch to entities with statutory independence like the Fed, has an obligation to be transparent and good stewards of taxpayer dollars. I appreciate Chair Warsh’s commitment to both protecting Fed independence and inviting Congressional oversight.
