Happy Columbus Day! 🇮🇹🇺🇸 As a first-generation Italian American and a member of the Congressional Italian American Caucus, I am proud of my heritage and the contributions Italian Americans have made to our great nation. My father, Joseph A. Suozzi, lived an extraordinary American Dream. Born in Ruvo del Monte, Italy, he immigrated to the United States as a child, served as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and went on to serve as Mayor of Glen Cove and a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court’s Appellate Division. To honor stories like his and preserve the contributions of generations of Italian Americans, I’ve introduced legislation to establish a National Museum of Italian American History and Culture. My father’s story is one of countless immigrant success stories that helped build America. Let’s honor that legacy by fighting discrimination, expanding opportunity, and keeping the American Dream alive for future generations.
