Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, recognizing the history, culture, and contributions of the indigenous people who have lived here long before our nation was founded. There are more than 570 recognized tribes in the United States – including the Piscataway Conoy tribe, who have lived throughout Anne Arundel County and the Chesapeake Bay tributaries for centuries. Their contributions have shaped much of Maryland’s rich history and continue to strengthen our communities and country today.

ICYMI: Last week, @GovWesMoore and @MdAgDept hosted a Buy Local Cookout, bringing together dozens of local farmers, producers, watermen, restaurants, and breweries from across the state. We cannot afford to miss the mark on AI safety and oversight. The Center for AI Standards and Innovation, or CAISI, is the key government office that evaluates AI systems and coordinates oversight at the federal level. With the rapidly emerging capabilities in AI, this office is currently too underresourced and underfunded to meet the moment. That’s why I’ve joined @BradSherman and my colleagues in urging an increase in funding for this crucial agency.

Secretary Hegseth calling for a public execution is abhorrent and absolutely barbaric. The military has not conducted an execution by firing squad since World War II and we have not had a public execution since 1936.
