Today, we celebrate Columbus Day and recognize the contributions of Italian Americans who have helped shape our nation. Christopher Columbus’s 1492 voyage remains a significant chapter in history, and this day is an opportunity to honor Italian American heritage, culture, and the generations who have strengthened our communities and our country.

A Philadelphia police officer was ambushed and killed simply for wearing the badge and answering the call. Another officer was shot and critically wounded. These men put their lives on the line to protect the public, and one of them paid the ultimate price. My prayers are with the fallen officer’s family, the wounded officer and his family, and the entire Philadelphia Police Department. We must never forget the sacrifice our law enforcement officers make to keep our communities safe.

An execution shouldn’t be a live-streamed spectacle. The focus should be on justice for the victims and their families, not turning an execution into entertainment. Their pain deserves respect, not a public show.

Excited to see Exeter Commons get underway. Wawa is just the beginning. This development will bring new businesses, jobs, and opportunities to Exeter while giving local families more places to shop, work, and spend time together. That’s the kind of responsible growth we need across Northeastern Pennsylvania. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this project happen!

Housing costs are putting real pressure on families across Northeastern Pennsylvania. We brought local realtors, developers, educators, and housing leaders together to hear what they’re seeing on the ground and what Congress can do to make housing more affordable. We need to build more homes, cut unnecessary barriers, and make sure working families have a fair shot at owning a home.

Three years later, we remember the innocent lives taken on October 7th. Hamas deliberately targeted civilians, murdered families, and took hostages. There is no justification for that kind of evil. Today, we mourn the victims, stand with their families, reject antisemitism, and reaffirm our commitment to standing with Israel.

Reliable rural broadband is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity.    By passing the Rural Broadband Affordability Act though the Farm Bill, rural families and small businesses will have better access to the reliable, affordable internet they deserve, and we’re working to make that a reality across NEPA.

When we say we’re going to do something, we see it through. From visiting before I was even sworn in, to securing $3 million in federal funding last spring, to now helping move a $37 million USDA loan forward, we’ve stayed committed to the new Wayne Pike Career and Technical Center. Another big step toward creating more opportunities for NEPA students and building the skilled workforce our region needs.
