The reports and videos of ICE agents racially profiling and violently handling non-criminal immigrants in our communities and not accepting legal forms of identification is unacceptable. Families are living in fear. I am formally demanding a congressional investigation into these brutal behaviors and advocating to end these violent operations in our communities.
I sat with residents along the New River and listened. Breathing problems. Eye irritation. Skin conditions. Cancer. This is what this river is doing to our communities and it has been ignored for far too long. I brought federal leaders here to Calexico to hear it firsthand. The work continues until this is fixed.
I celebrated the 2026 Congressional Art Competition winners with students, families, and teachers! The winning piece, “Puppeteered by the Fear” by Karina Simo Vazquez will be hung in the halls of the U.S. Capitol for visitors from across the world to view and enjoy. I love seeing the creativity and work of our communities’ youth and can’t wait to see what else they do. 🎨🖌️🖼️
Today, Justice Samuel Alito and five Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices changed the rules. They made it nearly impossible for Black and Latino communities to challenge voting maps drawn to push them aside. Politicians can now split minority neighborhoods in half, call it politics, and the law cannot touch them. Trump wanted this. His administration fought for it. And his justices delivered it. They are raising our costs. They are cutting our healthcare. Now they are making sure our minority communities cannot vote them out. We see the pattern. And we will fight back.
Trump says there is "no time frame" for this war. No plan. No end in sight. Meanwhile, families in our communities and across America are paying more at the pump. We cannot write a blank check for an endless conflict with no strategy and no accountability.
I told RFK Jr. directly: "You are making the President look bad. Measles cases are up. Flu deaths up. Public trust is collapsing. The data does not lie." https://t.co/cZpgPExdaI
Republicans just blocked a vote to stop Trump's war in Iran. I voted YES. Servicemembers are at risk. Gas prices are rising. Billions spent abroad instead of lowering costs at home. No clear plan. No clear strategy. Congress has a duty to act. We cannot hand this president a blank check for endless war.
California just launched the Salton Sea Conservancy, a new effort to speed up restoration, cut toxic dust, and improve air quality for nearby communities through improved coordination. I applaud @SenStevePadilla State Senator Steve Padilla’s leadership in establishing it through legislation and Governor Gavin Newsom @GavinNewsom for making it a priority. Their first public meeting is on May 14. Transparency and community input is critical.
Today I convened a virtual roundtable with growers across California’s 25th Congressional District to explore real legislative solutions for our agricultural community. Tariffs, rising gas prices, and supply costs are straining our regional economy, and our families are feeling it at the table. We discussed bold ideas, from strengthening buy local initiatives to tackling food insecurity head on. I am working to introduce legislation that puts our farmers and our communities first. Our valley’s food future depends on it.
