When we tried to subpoena Ilhan Omar and her alleged brother-husband's immigration records, Congress did what it does best: protect its own. https://t.co/ixA1u7Vd71
After this morning, it seems she might be one step closer to having her wish come true. https://t.co/lR9ZjUlSx5
Survivors should never have to choose between their voice and their bank account. Today, we introduced the Speak Your Truth Act to make abusers PAY for suing survivors into silence. Under the bill, a survivor who prevails in a defamation or libel case brought against them in federal court would be entitled to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs, paid by the plaintiff. Defending a defamation suit can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Many survivors stay silent rather than risk it. Our bill puts the cost of a failed suit where it belongs: on the person who filed it.
Remember: we tried to subpoena Ilhan's immigration records earlier this year. Both parties blocked it. Today, federal agents showed up at her door with a warrant, reportedly over her immigration records. Funny how it works.

Ilhan Omar’s home was raided this morning by Homeland Security Investigations with a judicially authorized warrant, reportedly tied to her immigration paperwork. We tried to subpoena the immigration records of Ilhan Omar and her alleged brother-husband. Both Democrats AND Republicans blocked it in Oversight. If the fraud is proven, she should be denaturalized and removed from this country. NO ONE is above the law.
We were one of only four Republicans to sign the Epstein discharge petition. We also signed the SECOND Epstein Files Transparency discharge petition. Accountability must apply to everyone. No matter their party. No matter their wealth. No matter how powerful they are. Survivors deserve justice.
Our veterans should never have to worry about floodwaters shutting down their care. Our VA Flood Preparedness Act would allow the VA to contribute funds to local governments and agencies to help reduce the risk of flooding near VA medical centers. It also requires the VA to report to Congress on the level of flood risk at each facility and whether additional resources are needed to manage future challenges. The men and women who served this country earned reliable care and it shouldn't disappear when we have heavy rain and floods.
No matter what comes our way, we will always put the Lowcountry first. It's not just the job. It's a promise we made to every family, every small business, and every community we serve. God bless the Lowcountry. 🇺🇸 https://t.co/2929j0Mz23
