Christopher Columbus was a pioneer of exploration. His courage to cross the Atlantic and venture into the unknown changed the course of world history. Recently, I introduced the Italian Heroes and Heritage Act to preserve and honor the contributions of Italian Americans to our nation and protect this federal holiday. Today, we honor Columbus, celebrate Italian American heritage, and recognize the generations who have strengthened our communities and our country.
