Through the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, we gave the president significant authorities and leverage against China and Russia to bring Putin’s war to an end with a negotiated settlement. Unfortunately, while I understand the desire to bring down diesel prices, I am concerned the lifting of sanctions on Russian oil will only fund the Kremlin’s war machine—emboldening more violence and destruction, as we have seen in recent days.
I visited Israel in the wake of the October 7 attack and viewed the devastating wreckage firsthand. Hamas terrorists committed unspeakable acts of savagery — refusing to spare even women or young children. Today, three years later, we commit to remembering that harrowing day and to honoring the 1,200 lives lost.
Proud to introduce this resolution alongside @RepJoshG and @RepDonBacon to honor the brave passengers and crew on Flight 1073 — especially Captain Smit Machchhar, who sustained injuries fighting the attacker and still managed to unlock the cockpit door and allow others to land the plane. Were it not for his extraordinary courage, this story could have ended in horrific tragedy. I wish Captain Machchhar, the crew, and all the passengers healing and strength as we await a comprehensive investigation into this harrowing incident.
I'm deeply concerned by this attempted terrorist attack. The passengers and crew — including the injured co-pilot who reportedly fought to stop the attacker — are in my thoughts as we await more information. I'm also very relieved the flight landed safely, thanks to the heroism of many brave individuals whose stories are still coming to light.
Throughout my 22 years in Congress, I took on pressing national security issues — bolstering cybersecurity, standing up to our adversaries, onshoring semiconductor production, and more. I will never stop fighting to keep Americans safe. Read more in @NRO ⬇️ https://t.co/8mmgrPo6IO
President Trump just gave a very strong speech at UNGA, with China paying close attention. I joined @HarrisFaulkner immediately after the speech to react to his remarks on global conflicts and the high-tech race with China. ⬇️ https://t.co/SIPf4NC7Nx
When the Biden administration abdicated its federal duty to secure our borders, Texas stood in the gap — spending billions on Operation Lone Star to defend this nation. I was proud to have worked with @GregAbbott_TX and @HouseGOP leadership to secure funding to pay our state back. Thank you, @SecMullinDHS, for working to set things right with this $7.5 billion reimbursement.
Thank you, Mr. President! Lindsey was a mentor and a good friend to me, and I can think of no better tribute to his legacy than today’s bill signing ceremony. This bill will give @POTUS tremendous leverage over our adversaries to bring this conflict to a peaceful resolution. It was an honor to introduce it in the House and see it across the finish line.
I founded the Congressional Childhood Cancer Caucus in 2009 with one goal: to give children with cancer a voice in Washington. Seventeen years later, we've passed several pieces of game-changing legislation, funded hundreds of millions of dollars of research, and dramatically expanded treatment options for these precious children. Today, we gathered at my 17th annual Childhood Cancer Summit to celebrate our many victories, to remember and honor the legacies of the children we've tragically lost, and to spread hope. It has been the highlight of my career to get to know these courageous kids and to see many their lives changed through our work. They are my biggest inspiration, and I will never stop fighting until cancer can no longer threaten their futures.
Today is a great day for Ukraine, and it's a great day for freedom and democracy around the world. I know my friend and mentor, Senator Lindsey Graham, is shining down on us.
