As we celebrate Mother's Day and wish mothers everywhere the very best, I must pause to remember my own dear mother, Mary Elizabeth Willis, who died in my arms when I was 16 years old. Her young life was cut short, but she instilled precious values in me that have lasted a lifetime. Thank you mom, I will always love you! #MothersDay #love #family #faith #RIP
This week, I along with U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Congressman Johnny Olszewski (All D-MD), joined by Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott, highlighted $1,184,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 Congressionally Directed Spending that they, along with U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), fought to deliver to help reduce gun violence across Baltimore. The federal funding will support the expansion of the City’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS), a program that engages individuals most directly involved in and affected by violence and brings together law enforcement, social services, and community partners to provide resources and reduce crime. #Baltimore #Maryland #violenceprevention #PublicSafety #community
I was glad to join with U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, and U.S. Representatives Sarah Elfreth, and Johnny Olszewski (all D-MD) to announce $39,662,903 in federal funding for the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) to expand freight handling capacity at the Tradepoint Atlantic terminal within the Port of Baltimore. The investment supports the development of the new Sparrows Point Container Terminal at Tradepoint Atlantic which will further the continued revitalization of the former Sparrows Point steel mill and expand container cargo capacity within Baltimore by 70%. The project is also estimated to create 1,100 new International Longshoremen Association jobs and support an additional 7,000 jobs connected to the Port. #Baltimore #Maryland #IndustryInMotion #portofbaltimore #TerminalInvestmentLimited #MSC
Today, the Supreme Court of the United States made the bigoted, shameful, and destructive decision to gut what elements of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that were still in effect. See my full statement below. https://t.co/CpluzR4aSD

I had the honor last night to deliver the keynote address at the Annual Parren J. Mitchell Awards Dinner in Fort Meade. Congratulations to the awardees, scholarship recipients, members of the Mitchell family, and my colleague, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth, for making it such a memorable occasion. #Maryland #parrenjmitchell
Today I joined with Congressman Chris Smith and advocates and survivors from across the country to advocate for the passage of the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Reauthorization Act. Human trafficking is a moral crisis that demands action. This legislation strengthens prevention, expands support for survivors, and reinforces our commitment to justice for those who have been exploited. Frederick Douglass taught us that freedom is not given, it must be secured. We must continue the fight to protect the most vulnerable and ensure that every person can live with dignity and freedom. This is about accountability, compassion, and action. I will continue working across the aisle to get it done.
