Great to help kick off another season for the Miracle League in Vernon! The Miracle League provides children with physical and cognitive challenges opportunities to play baseball in an accessible environment. The Miracle Field is an excellent use of federal funding in our towns. Great to see eastern Connecticut advocate for Autism Speaks Elizabeth Bauch and her son Joseph ready to play ball!
It was a pleasure to catch up my friend, the former Australian Ambassador to the United States, Joe Hockey. Ambassador Hockey has worked for years to strengthen the U.S.-Australia alliance, and we discussed the exciting path ahead for the alliance under AUKUS. https://t.co/c6B3glEXml
Great News. A new $1.495 million grant will fund taxiway drainage improvements at the Groton-New London Airport. The airport has heightened value with the sharp increase in employment in Groton. This new funding and funding from the Infrastructure Law of 2021 are helping ensure the Groton-New London Airport is ready to accommodate increased demand.
AUKUS is a new, ambitious security agreement between the U.S. and our closest allies - Australia and the UK. Yesterday, US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Daryl Caudle emphatically endorsed its value to our Navy and friends. https://t.co/eQCpMBsrWZ
In honor of National Police Week, I cosponsored a resolution to memorialize law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, including Sergeant Frank Linehan of the New London Police Department. In 1950, Sgt. Linehan collapsed and died after pushing through a crowd of 2,500 people at the Garde Theatre to assist a woman who had fainted. At the time, there was no formal mechanism to document line-of-duty deaths, so Sgt. Linehan’s heroism went unacknowledged for decades. This week, his name will be engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.
I grilled Sec. Linda McMahon on the Department of Education's new rule that excludes nursing from a list of "professional" degrees. In addition to being insulting and out of touch, this rule will raise education costs for nurses in a moment when our country is in a nursing crisis. It's a result of the Big Ugly Bill.
Good news for submarine construction. Electric Boat has been awarded a new $2.3B contract for pre-construction of Virginia-class submarines. This is another emphatic positive statement on the priority of the Virginia program. It’s time for the Navy to finalize a long-delayed construction contract for the next block of Virginia submarines that Congress authorized 29 months ago. This long term contract will give the small submarine suppliers who are so critical the confidence to make the investments needed to ramp up production.
Last week, I cosponsored the “No Funds for War in Iran Act,” which would prohibit the use of additional taxpayer funding for military operations against Iran without Congressional authorization. The American people should not have to foot the bill for the President’s war of choice that is causing havoc with out-of-control inflation.
Inflation has risen to its highest level in three years because of the Iran war. Americans are paying the cost for the President’s war of choice. I’ve voted twice to end this war. It’s past time for Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over war powers. https://t.co/K3dwfXWPY6
This week is National Police Week. Thank you to our local police officers who work day-in, day-out to keep our communities safe. I’ll continue working in Congress to deliver resources that allow them to do their jobs safely and effectively for our towns. https://t.co/Sq1IMIheaF
