This week on Capitol Hill, we've been honoring our brave law enforcement officers at the federal, state and local levels during National Police Week. We are standing firm in our support for the men and women who serve and protect our communities. Last year, more than 100 law enforcement officers across the country were killed in the line of duty. Our officers deserve the utmost support, and I was proud to help advance federal legislation that provides the tools necessary to make our neighborhoods safer, including my subcommittee's federal funding bill for Commerce, Justice, Science in 2027. There’s no better bill to advance during Police Week than the FY27 federal funding for Commerce, Justice, Science - investing in law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels. We’ll be working on that bill throughout the day today, along with funding for other critical priorities for the American people.
I was proud to host the @NASAArtemis II Integrity Astronauts on Capitol Hill yesterday to celebrate their successful trip around the moon, flying farther into space than anyone in U.S. history. Their mission inspired our entire nation to dream bigger and invest in greater opportunities for future generations. As Chairman of Commerce, Justice, Science, our subcommittee was proud to support the Artemis II mission. We must continue to ensure that America maintains a competitive advantage over China in space exploration.
We held the Commerce, Justice, Science subcommittee's first budget hearing for fiscal year 2027 with President Trump's principal trade advisor and negotiator, US Trade Ambassador Jamieson Greer. The U.S. Trade Representative's (USTR) office protects national security, addresses unfair trade practices and open foreign markets for U.S. goods. The Trump Administration has announced trade deals with many of our key trading partners and is actively working on renegotiating the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement with our neighbors. USTR also launched various Section 301 tariff investigations aimed at addressing unfair trade practices and relating to forced labor and excess manufacturing capacity by over 60 nations. USTR must ensure that rival nations, like China, are not able to take advantage of Americans by engaging in unfair trade practices. We cannot allow China to export deadly fentanyl precursor chemicals, flooding our country and poisoning our children. Welcome home @NASAArtemis II Integrity! 🇺🇸 Congratulations on your historic mission beyond the moon!
Tonight, at 7:50-8:10pm, join me on @NASA's livestream @NASAArtemis II Mission Coverage as the astronauts take questions from me a few of my colleagues in the U.S. House and Senate. Each of us have the brief opportunity to ask one question during the Integrity crew's last full day in space. Thanks to all the feedback from Eastern Kentuckians on social media, I have crafted a unique question for the astronauts. Watch live: https://t.co/IHBM6yuwxk
