It’s National Police Week! During my morning run, I stopped by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial—a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by our law enforcement in Alaska and across the country—police, troopers, firemen and first responders. There is something special—even sacred—about a career where you put your life on the line every single day for your fellow Americans. This Memorial stands as a testament to their courage and sacrifice. This week, we honor our fallen heroes and never forget their sacrifice. I want to thank all the men and women in uniform—and their families—gathering across the country this week. And I want them to know this: you are in our prayers and we have your backs.

The signing of the new partnership between the Defense Innovation Unit and the University of Alaska Fairbanks is another major milestone in Alaska’s military comeback. As Alaska undergoes the most significant military buildup in our state since World War II—from the Air Force and Army to the Coast Guard and Marines—this partnership will help ensure our state is also at the forefront of defense innovation. UAF is already one of America’s premier hubs for Arctic research, unmanned systems, energy, critical minerals, space, radars, hypersonics, and cold-weather technology. Now, that expertise will be connected even more directly with the Pentagon and our warfighters.

Julie and I had a great night at the annual Greater Fairbanks Chamber’s Military Appreciation Banquet on Friday. Every year for decades, the Fairbanks community attends this dinner in huge numbers to show their support for our military. I was surprised and honored to receive the Jim Messer Award—named after a great veteran and someone who worked tirelessly for decades to foster a welcoming environment for our military in Fairbanks. Thanks to the Greater Fairbanks Chamber for hosting this very important event every year and the community of Fairbanks for their constant support of our military!
