I was pleased to support the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill. This legislation builds on House Republicans’ commitment to supporting veterans, our soldiers and their families, and it represents the beginning of our appropriations process for FY27. Investing billions in infrastructure improvements at VA medical facilities nationwide, this bill will help our service members and veterans struggling with mental health challenges while also strengthening suicide prevention programs. America’s men and women in uniform deserve the best care, and I will always look out for those who volunteer to defend our nation.
Today, I joined 78 of my House colleagues on a bipartisan letter to United States Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer. We highlighted struggles facing our specialty crop farmers, unfair regulations putting American farmers at risk, and lopsided production advantages that countries like Mexico exploit. I applaud my friend Rep. Austin Scott for his leadership on this issue. https://t.co/ufAtldPzkX
Yesterday, I was pleased to convene dozens of industry leaders, state legislators, and stakeholders in Moses Lake for a Central Washington Energy Summit. From the only nuclear power reactor in the region to abundant hydropower on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, Washingtonians know better than most the importance of smart energy policy. A huge thanks to Big Bend Community College for hosting. And to all who came, participated and stopped by, it was great to see you.
This National Police Week, join me in thanking our officers for their bravery and dedication to the safety of our families and communities. We honor and remember all officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and I am thankful for those in law enforcement who keep Central Washington safe every day.
Rural America is in dire straits. That's why I was pleased to vote in support of the Farm Bill—critical bipartisan legislation to strengthen support for the over 250 specialty crop growers in the Fourth District alone, improve access to much-needed crop insurance, invest in agricultural export programs, and reauthorize voluntary, incentive-based conservation programs. https://t.co/a4qAujxe9c
@USDA needs adequate staffing to best implement important programs like the U.S. Farmer Bridge Assistance (FBA) Program. That's why I led a letter along with 14 of my House colleagues to USDA urging the Department to address understaffing at the @usdaFSA and the @USDA_NRCS. America needs more energy. That is why I'm pleased that the House overwhelmingly passed S. 1020, known as the "Build More Hydro" bill—@SteveDaines' Senate companion to my legislation in the House that will allow our Nation to meet our growing hydropower needs. Now, this bill goes to President Trump's desk to become law. Thank you to Senator Daines for his hard work on this critical proposal. https://t.co/jqkgemYAiL
As a third-generation farmer, I know how important agriculture is to our economy in Central Washington. Farm country is in dire straits. That's why, in my latest op-ed in @agripulse , I explain why Congress must pass the Farm Bill to deliver for farmers, ranchers, and producers across the country. https://t.co/UiiVjQxVeq
Specialty crops like hops and mint play a key role in Central Washington's agricultural economy. I emphasized to @SecRollins how important these crops are, and that these farmers need additional assistance in future programs. The Yakima Valley grows nearly 75% of our country’s hops, and these growers have struggled over the last five years due to market disruptions.
I enjoyed meeting with the Public Power Council to discuss the importance of hydropower to meet growing power demand and ongoing litigation impacting the Lower Snake River Dams. The dams and salmon can, and do, coexist and the frivolous litigation is wasting taxpayer dollars in an effort to raise our utility bills. I appreciate the work PPC is doing to defend our dams!
