Donald Trump is handing the keys of an already out-of-control ICE agency to a former private immigration detention executive and ally of Stephen Miller. I have serious concerns and questions about conflicts of interest, especially about the administration's plans to further expand the for-profit detention system despite longstanding concerns about conditions, oversight, and accountability.

Today I met with Maria de Jesus Estrada Juarez, a mother and long-time Sacramento resident who was wrongfully deported after being detained at her green card interview. Thanks to a court ruling, Maria was returned to Sacramento and reunited with her family, but her story remains a stark example of what this administration is willing to do to DACA recipients –– even those who follow the rules and do it "the right way." DACA recipients like Maria –– and all Dreamers –– deserve a pathway to citizenship. I won't stop fighting for them.

The Trump Administration is attacking California over claims that they can't back up.   Let's be real, this isn't about fraud — it's about punishing a state that didn't vote for him.   Political retribution plain and simple.

Fourteen years ago, our nation made a promise: that young people brought here as children — through no decision of their own — could come out of the shadows and be protected in the only country most of them have ever truly known.    It's up to us to keep that promise.    Dreamers have grown up here. This is their home. They are American in every way that truly matters. And it’s long past time that Congress provides them a pathway to citizenship by finally passing the Dream Act.
